Terms of use

Last updated 27 October 2026

These terms are between you and Javid Medina, who makes Transcend. By installing or using Transcend, or using this website, you agree to them. Our privacy page and refund policy are part of them.

Who can use it

You need to be old enough to agree to a contract where you live, or to have a parent's or guardian's permission, who then agrees to these terms for you. If you're under 13, please don't apply to test or pin notes on the ideas wall.

Your music is yours

Everything you make in Transcend belongs to you: your songs, recordings, projects and exports, with no royalties owed to us. You can release, sell and license it however you like, and it stays yours even after a refund or if your licence ends. The same goes for sounds made with Transcend's own instruments and effects. Material you bring in (samples, projects, plugins) stays under its own licences.

We never use your projects, recordings, exports, crash reports or anything else you make or send us to train AI models, and we never let anyone else do so. Transcend's own AI features, such as separating a song into stems, are trained only on recordings we have the right to use for that.

Your licence

Transcend is licensed to you, not sold. When you buy it, you get a personal, non-exclusive licence to install and use it, on these terms:

Parts of Transcend are open-source software under their own licences, listed in the THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES file installed with it. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences, including your right under the GNU Lesser General Public License to replace or change the Qt libraries Transcend uses and to reverse engineer it to debug such changes.

The public beta

Transcend is still in development, and the public beta is sold as it is: unfinished. It can crash, lose work or misread a project, so keep backups of anything that matters. Importing a project from another DAW never changes the original file. Reported bugs are fixed as quickly as we can, and new builds come out often. Buying during the public beta includes version 1.0 when it is released, at no extra cost. Free tester licences may be temporary.

Updates

Transcend changes often, especially before version 1.0: features are added, changed, and sometimes taken out. It downloads and installs an update only when you agree.

Sounds that come with Transcend

You may use the sounds in Transcend's instruments, sound packs and Library in your music. Each sound pack comes with its own licence, such as CC0 or CC BY, shown with the pack together with any credit it asks for; follow it when you share what you made.

Buying

Purchases are handled by Stripe through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe is the seller: its terms cover the payment, taxes and receipts. Refunds follow our refund policy. A refunded licence, or one reversed by a chargeback, stops working.

Extensions and plugins

Extensions in the Store marked Reviewed have had their code read by us before they were listed. Community extensions, and anything installed from a link, come straight from their makers, who are responsible for them. Third-party plugins are their makers' products and their own terms apply. Transcend asks before installing anything that runs code; install only what you trust.

Ideas you send

If you pin an idea on the website's wall, or suggest one anywhere else, you let us show it and build it, without owing you anything for it. Don't post anything you don't want public, and nothing unlawful, hateful or misleading; we may decline or remove any note.

Using the website

Don't try to break into the site or its servers, overload them, send spam through its forms, or collect other people's information from it.

If something here is yours

If something on this website, on the ideas wall or in the Store uses your work without permission, send a notice to our copyright agent: Javid Medina, dawtranscend@gmail.com. Say what the work is, where you found it on our site, how to reach you, and that you believe in good faith that the use isn't allowed. We'll take it down and tell whoever posted it. If you think something of yours was taken down by mistake, you can send a counter-notice the same way. We remove the notes and extensions of anyone who infringes again and again. Community extensions are hosted on GitHub, which also handles notices for them.

NO WARRANTY, AND LIMITS ON LIABILITY

TRANSCEND IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR LOST WORK, LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS, OR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO WHAT YOU PAID FOR TRANSCEND.

SOME US STATES DON'T ALLOW THESE EXCLUSIONS OR LIMITS, SO SOME OF THEM MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS RIGHTS YOU HAVE AS A CONSUMER THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY CONTRACT, INCLUDING UNDER THE LAWS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Ending your licence

You can stop using Transcend at any time. We may end your licence if you seriously break these terms, for example by sharing your key, and will tell you first where we can. The parts of these terms about your music, warranties, liability and the law keep applying after a licence ends.

Export rules

You may not use or download Transcend where the export or sanctions laws that apply to it forbid it.

Names of other products

Other DAWs and plugin formats are named only to say what Transcend works with. Their names are their owners' trademarks, and Transcend is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. VST and ASIO are trademarks of Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH. Audio Units, Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.

The law, and disagreements

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, and a claim goes to the state or federal courts in Massachusetts. If you are a consumer living somewhere else, you keep the protection of your own country's laws that can't be set aside by a contract, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. Before going to court, please write to us first: most problems are fixed by asking.

Changes and contact

If these terms change, this page changes first, with a new date. A change applies from that date and never takes back a licence you already bought. Questions: dawtranscend@gmail.com.
