What’s new.
What changed in Transcend, month by month. Testers get each build automatically.
Moving between DAWs
- Studio One songs (.song) open directly: tracks, folders, sends, instruments, plugins with their settings, Pro EQ, Compressor, Gate, Limiter and X-Trem with theirs, and the tempo map.
- Audio that followed the tempo in a REAPER, Studio One or DAWproject song keeps following it in Transcend.
- DAWproject export: File ▸ Export ▸ DAWproject writes your song for Studio One, Bitwig and Cubase. It also converts an FL, Live or REAPER project to DAWproject.
- FL Studio import: sample root notes, sidechains in older projects, a keyed Fruity Limiter, FL’s Pitch Shifter and its master pitch now come across, clips play on their own track, and MP3 clips land on time.
- The import report has a new look and says which version of the other DAW wrote the file. A version newer than we have tested is checked against what Transcend knows, and you can tell us, in one click, about anything it didn’t recognise: only that, never the project.
- Share Project: a copy for someone without your plugins, with those parts rendered to audio, zipped and ready to send.
Your projects
- Project Versions is now a stack of snapshots: go back through your saves, read what changed, listen to both, name a version, or go back to it.
- File ▸ Revert To ▸ Last Save.
- Capture MIDI: what you played is kept, even when you weren’t recording.
- One key for the whole song, detected from your notes.
- Drop in a whole song and Transcend can follow its tempo, beat by beat.
- If a plugin took Transcend down, the next launch names it and asks whether to leave it out or load it in its own process, and so does adding it again.
- A project copied from another computer can be saved over even when its file is read-only.
- Loading a project full of long audio is about three times faster, using half the memory.
- Track freeze, undoable faders, pan, width, mute and solo, crash reports you see before they’re sent, and signed updates that install when you say so.
Editing
- A new clip menu, grouped and quicker to read.
- Audio clips can carry effects of their own.
- Edit several audio clips at once, and change a clip’s pitch without changing its speed.
- Turning warp on syncs a clip to the song’s tempo.
- Every instrument on a track plays through that track’s fader and effects, and an instrument follows the track that plays it.
- Picking another instrument for a pattern never changes the notes already in it.
- A redesigned step sequencer, and the Samples and Patterns bins draw each row as a little clip.
- A full automation editor, a pitch editor for sung takes, and MIDI effects on patterns and on the keys you play.
Sounds and plugins
- Audio to Instrument: turn one recorded note into an instrument you can play and edit.
- Find any plugin with Ctrl+F and add it to a track.
- Transcend Strings: sampled orchestral strings, with its own instrument window.
- TK-1 is now Keyroom, with a photo of each kind of keys.
- A redesigned Pad Sampler and Reverb, and a new Transcend Auto Pan.
- The Library: your own sounds, patterns and MIDI, plus free sound packs to download, with credits shown.
- An effect that loads but passes no sound (an expired trial, usually) is noticed and named.
- TranSynth imports your own wavetables and has a wavetable editor.
Make it yours
- Three new themes, Walnut, Midnight and Moss, and a picture behind the timeline, your own photo too.
- The extension Store, with Reviewed and Community extensions, and installing from any GitHub link.
- Extensions can open windows, add right-click menu entries, give a pattern its instrument, and read the tempo map, meter, key and markers. Transcend --test-extension runs their tests.
- Settings is one sidebar with a search, and hovering a button shows its name.
Opening other DAWs’ projects
- FL Studio projects (.flp), with plugins, mixer, routing and automation, and FL’s main effects rebuilt with their settings.
- Ableton Live sets (.als), including warped audio, Drum Racks and Live’s own effects.
- REAPER projects (.rpp), including envelopes, the tempo map and ReaPlugs with their settings.
- DAWproject files exported from Studio One, Bitwig, Cubase and others.
Time and audio
- A tempo map: tempo changes, ramps and time-signature changes on markers, in beats.
- Warp: audio clips follow the song tempo, with tempo detection for loops.
- A redesigned audio editor with Tape, Beats and Tones stretch modes.
- Audio to MIDI, with separate settings for keys, guitar, bass, drums, vocals and full mixes.
- Markers on the ruler.
Beats and instruments
- Drum Machine: sixteen pads, eight kits, and pad lanes in the step sequencer.
- Sampler, with chopping by hits, notes or beats.
- Transcend FM, TranBass, SoundFont Player and Pump.
Mixing and the workspace
- Sends, with pre- and post-fader taps.
- Up to 128 tracks.
- A new start screen with project templates.
- Scrolling and zooming big arrangements got much faster.
- Extensions can add whole pages, and reload as you edit them.
